Compensation and Benefits

  • Starting (Entry-Level) Hourly Wage: $34.56
  • Top Patrol Officer Hourly Wage: $47.29
  • Lateral Entry Pay: Negotiated at final job offer
  • Shift Differential Pay: $1.00/hour
  • 5% Out-of-Class Pay for Detective and School Resource Officer assignments
  • $1,000 Annual Uniform Allowance
  • 12-hour Shifts – typically 5 days on, 5 off, 2 on, 2 off (every other weekend off with a five-day stretch!)
  • 12 Paid Holidays

  • Physical Fitness Incentive Program

Recruitment Incentive Program

Newly hired licensed peace officers are eligible for up to $4,000 in recruitment incentive payments:

  • $2,000 upon successful completion of the Field Training Officer (FTO) program and certification for solo patrol status
  • $2,000 upon successful completion of the probationary period
  • 80 hours of vacation gifted at completion of FTO

Lateral Entry Benefits

We recognize the value of experience and offer a generous lateral program designed to make your transition seamless:

  • Salary Grid Placement: Prior full-time sworn service may be credited toward pay scale placement
  • Vacation Accrual: Prior service may be credited toward vacation accrual rate
  • Vacation Bonus: 80 hours of vacation awarded upon completion of the FTO program
  • Sick Leave Credit (Tiered System):
    • Tier 1: Entry-level hires receive 40 hours upon hire
    • Tier 2: Lateral hires receive 80 total hours (40 at hire, 40 after FTO)
    • Tier 3: Lateral hires with 5+ years of sworn service and a prior sick-leave bank of 120 hours receive 120 total hours (80 at hire, 40 after 12 months)

Qualifications

  • Must be a licensed peace officer in Minnesota or eligible for POST licensing at the time of hire
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and meet all other standard employment and background requirements
