Construction Season Set to Start in Hermantown

While there will be an increased focus on proper social distancing regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, construction season is slated to begin in Hermantown in the coming weeks.

There are a trio of projects that highlight the City’s regular maintenance efforts. Work is already visible on the Section 24 Trunk Sewer Project, which extends from Maple Grove Road to Hermantown Road. This work has already caused a road closure at Okerstrom Road at Hermantown Road. Upon completion, this project will not only open more than 200 acres to possible development, but also feature a community trail which will be publicly accessible and eventually be part of connecting Hermantown with trail systems beyond the city limits.

The City will also shortly begin construction on the first phase of the overall Road Improvement Plan. A section of Hermantown Road from Stebner Road to Okerstrom Road, as well as Johnson Road, Portland Road, Carlson Road, and Alexander Road, are the areas receiving attention in this first year of the multi-year plan. Projects for subsequent years are expected to begin public information meetings in June of 2020.

The City will also be performing chip sealing work on Arrowhead Road, Loberg Avenue, and Market Street this summer.

The latter part of the summer will also feature culvert upgrades on Okerstrom Road, which will result in some road closures at different points in August and September.

Updates and changes will be able to be found on the City’s website, as well as social media platforms.
