The Hermantown Volunteer Fire Department has room for 40 active and probationary members within the department's charter. All members must be United States Citizens, not less than 21 years of age, and maintain reasonable responses to emergency calls to the department, as defined under departmental policies.
Candidates making application with the Hermantown Volunteer Fire Department must:
- be more than twenty one (21) years of age.
- be a resident of Hermantown.
- be in good physical and mental health and eligible to perform the duties responsible of the position.
- hold a valid Minnesota driver's license.
- attend three business meetings, held on the second Thursday of each month.
All applicants are required to appear before the department Chiefs prior to their second business meeting. After 60 days of submitting an application, all candidates must successfully complete a department physical. An agility test will be given to the candidate after the results of the departmental physical.
Probationary fire fighters will become active members after serving not less than one year and no more than two years and after completing all probationary requirements as follows:
- Successful completion of a Fire Fighter I course or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a First Responder (at minimum) class qualified by the Minnesota
Emergency Medical Services Regulatory Board or equivalent.
- Successful completion of the minimum training requirements established in departmental policies.
- Successful driving and operation tests of all apparatus and equipment owned by the department.
