ARCHERY HUNTING
Hunting with a bow and arrow is permitted during the hunting season in the following areas in the City of Hermantown upon securing an archery permit:
- Any portion of the City of Hermantown lying west of LaVaque Road
- Any parcels of property with a common boundary of 8 acres of more lying east of the LaVaque Road.
Applications for archery permits are available at the police department during normal business hours. Applicants must apply in person and provide the following:
- Name, address, and phone number
- Type of bow and arrow to be discharged
- Legal description and name, address, and phone number of owner of lane on which hunter wishes to hunt
- Signature of land owner granting approval and consent for hunting
- Valid license to hunt with bow and arrow issued by the appropriate authority
- Valid state-issued ID or driver’s license

NO BOW AND ARROW SHALL BE DISCHARGED:
- On any platted subdivision or industrial park in the City of Hermantown
- Within 500 feet of any dwelling or building occupied by humans or animals
- Within 500 feet of any property owned by ISD 700, Hermantown Schools
- On any land owned by the City of Hermantown
- On any land owned by the City of Duluth
Important Information:
- No tree or ground stand may be located within 100 feet of any border of land
- No hunting of bears with bow and arrow is allowed
- No carcass or entrails shall remain in open view
- Hunters attempting to recover wounded deer must inform land owner prior to entering land not authorized in the hunting zone
Any hunter that is successful in taking a deer with a bow and arrow must report it to the police department within 24 hours with the following information:
- Name, address, phone number, permit number
- Date and time the deer was taken
- Land on which the deer was taken
- Gender of deer and approximate weight of the animal
Permits will be granted solely by the discretion of the City. The Chief of Police may deny any permit if he/she believes that issuance of such permit would create a safety hazard. The Chief of Police may also limit the number of permits issued for any land.
Any person obtaining a permit shall have permit on his/her person while carrying a bow and arrow. A person may only hunt on property for which they have a permit.
