GUN PERMITS
Hermantown residents may obtain a Permit to Purchase a Handgun at the Hermantown Police Department. Applications may be printed out and completed prior to bringing it to the Hermantown Police Department. The permit can be downloaded from the BCA website:

Applications are also available at the police department's front window. Applicants will be asked to provide a valid driver’s license with a current Hermantown address. A background check will be completed, and when it is approved, the permit will be issued by the Chief of Police and mailed to the permit holder. The process usually takes one to two weeks, and there is no fee.
The Hermantown Police Department does not issue Permits to Carry. These must be obtained from the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, located at 2030 Arlington Avenue North in Duluth.
