Animal Control / Dog-Cat Licenses:

  1. Dogs and cats living in the City of Hermantown must be licensed with the Hermantown Police Department.
  2. The licenses are valid from January 1 to December 31 and must be renewed on a yearly basis.
  3. The 2010 license fee is $10.00 per animal.
  4. The Hermantown Police Department will issue licenses for no more than three of each pet for the same address unless an Exception License is granted by the City of Hermantown.

If you’ve lost your pet, call the police department at 729-1200. Clerical staff will check to see if your pet has already been located; if not, they will take your name and phone number. Once an animal is found, if it is licensed, the police department will attempt to contact the registered owner at the phone number on the license. If the police are unable to contact the owner, the animal will be brought to Friends of Animals Humane Society animal shelter located at 1418 Hwy 33 in Cloquet . You can call them directly at 879-1655 to see if your pet is there. They are open Monday thru Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
